Dining in Florence on Saturday evening in the Byzantine Pagliazza Tower

The tower hosting the Osteria della Pagliazza is one of the oldest structures in Florence, built on an ancient Roman calidarium and used in the Middle Ages as a female prison whose “guests” laid on straw (hence, the name Pagliazza). Today it houses a private museum in its basement (available on request at the restaurant).

The osteria also has a welcoming dehors in piazza Santa Elisabetta with tables for outdoor dining.
