Since the end of last September the Vasari Corridor in Florence has been enriched with a new and extraordinary permanent exhibition located in the final stretch, near the exit of the Boboli Garden. It is 127 self-portraits of Italian and international artists of the last century. Striking and interesting works, one of a kind, realized by Baccio Maria Bacci, Balla, Marino Marini, Kusama, Raushenberg, Fabre, Clemente, Bocklin, Denis, Paladino, De Chirico, Chagall, Pistoletto, Zorn, Paolini and Siqueiros. The works come from the reserves of the Uffizi Gallery and they help to make even more complete the oldest collection of self-portraits in the world.
The charm of the new organization to the Vasari Corridor
The exhibition is part of a broader project, which aims to enhance and enrich what is the oldest collection of self-portraits in the world, aiming to accommodate additional works in an environment that it already has 527. The objective is to make advance the collection up to the beginning of the corridor, doubling the number of frames through pictorial creations of ‘800. A program absolutely extraordinary, which counts portraits on canvas but also works on bronze, plastic, photos and on tombstone. A collection that is nothing short of historic, begun by Cardinal Leopoldo de’ Medici and carried out with passion and tenacity still today.
